Problem is, Skype just seems to update whenever it wants, you no longer turn off automatic updates, so reinstalling this one is the only option if it auto updates. We love this little app, makes online gaming great with friends, using Skype's high quality voice chat while gaming and the ability to push to talk, so we can't hear each others noises.
PTT is short abbreviation for Push-to-talk (by Skype).This is a function which allows to transmit ones voice only when you press and hold a keyboard key. Simply saying, using Push-to-talk Skype at press of a button, the voice can be sent to the other side. When one releases the button, other side will stop hearing the sender’s voice.
Below are the step-by-step instructions on how to set up Push-to-talk function on Skype for Windows –
- Open the Skye App and Login into your account. On the top, we could see the Tools option. Click the Tools option and get a drop down menu. Select the Options from the drop down menu.
- After selecting the Options, a menu on left side of the screen/window will appear. Select the Advanced option at the bottom of the menu.
- Sub categories will appear under this option. Click on the Hotkeys option. Once done, we will get list of options on the right side of the window with multiple options. Here at the end we can see an option as Toggle Mute (push to talk). Check the box and click on button Change selected shortcut.
Now we are all set to use the “Push To Talk” feature of Skype.

I've been checking out skype as an alternative to ventrilo because we were getting some really bad feedback, but I was really surprised to find there was no real PTT support other than a mute mic hotkey.
So I decided to make a little utility program for skype.
(Skype PTT in action, nevermind the not responding :P)
Quick Guide:
1. Start Skype as normally and login.
New Skype Push To Talk Settings
2. Download and unzip from the link below, if you're having trouble starting the program you should download and install the .net 2.0 framework or higher.3. You may get a screen saying SkypePTT.exe wants to use Skype, click Allow access.
4. Call and press your hotkey to talk! (note u may have to click abit before talking because of the mute/unmute delay).

This version is outdated, get the new version here: Skype PTT 1.0 Final.If u still want to get the old version for any reason click here to download it.
Note: Requires Windows XP or higher and the .net 2.0 framework at least to run.
Personally tested in Windows XP and Vista 64 bit.
Update: If it's failing to run try registering the skype dll file.
Click on Start
Type in cmd in Run
Then cd to the folder where the files are extracted ->
Push To Talk Mac
Type in: regsvr32 Skype4COM.dll
