CWOC students are trained on a variety of cold-weather subjects, including snowshoe training and skiing as well as how to use ahkio sleds and other gear. Training also focuses on terrain and weather analysis, risk management, cold-weather clothing, developing winter fighting positions in the field, camouflage and concealment, and numerous other areas that are important to know in order to survive and operate in a cold-weather environment. The Cold War Recognition Certificate was authorized by the United States Congress in 1997 to recognize 'all members of the Armed Forces and qualified Federal government civilian personnel who faithfully and honorably served the United States during the Cold War Era from September 2, 1945, to December 26, 1991'. The Department of Defense designated the Department of the Army as the executive. Use a loop course to avoid getting too far away from home in the event something were to go wrong during your activity. Avoiding frost bite and hypothermia is the most important consideration when preparing for cold weather activities.
